Translating Transitions #2 by Marilyn Lowey

2012

GATE Projects, Glendale, CA

Los Angeles based artist Marilyn Lowey works with light as a material to create phenomenological pieces where light be- comes the form and interacts with the viewers perceptions. Her works use a full range of tools from technologically ad- vanced lights, mirrors, haze machines to store-bought lamps and hand made light bulbs. With this installation, Lowey ques- tions the difference between what the eye sees and the brain understands. She integrates state of the art technology to re- produce light from an analog source, while at the same time referencing past light sources utilized in art.
